A SUSPECT charged with murdering a man by blasting him with a shotgun has failed in a bid to get bail.

Garland Greene allegedly killed Paul Cairns, 42, at a property in Ardrossan, Ayrshire last May 24.

The 43 year-old Kilwinning resident - also known as James Ferguson - is accused of entering with his face masked and shooting him on the body.

Greene is separately charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He had denied the allegations at a hearing last October.

The case called again at the High Court in Glasgow today.

Greene's QC Tony Graham asked for a trial to be fixed.

Judge Lady Stacey refused due to the situation with the pandemic leading to Mr Graham asking for Greene to be freed on bail meantime.

Prosecutor Erin Campbell opposed the bid.

Lady Stacey did not allow bail meaning Greene will remain on remand.

A further hearing will next take place in March in Livingston.
