BIG hearted business owner Carly Gilliland and her team at Springside’s Day-to-Day store have been busy giving school kids in the area free supplies.
Carly was inspired after a pupil from Greenwood Academy was in the shop and told her it was difficult to get to school to get jotters, pens and other stationery.
So the team at Day-to-Day decided to make up packs for pupils.
All they have to do is pop into the shop an pick up their pack from Carly or Sharon Withers who works in the store.
Carly, 29, who took over the shop only two weeks ago said: “I know someone who was explaining she is a pupil at Greenwood and was finding it hard to get to school to get supplies to help her do her lessons.
“I realised then that there must be other kids who were in the same boat and so we made up some boxes with supplies for them.
“We put jotters, pencils, pens, rubbers, rulers, everything we thought they would need.
“And there is no embarrassment factor, the kids can just come in and pick one up.”
Since taking over the shop Carly wants to help the community and they have been offering free delivery, not just for senior citizens but for single parents struggling to get out the house.
She went on: “I know there are people who are struggling to juggle everything, especially with home schooling.
“We wanted to offer help to anyone who needs it all they have to do is give us a wee phone.
“I have always been helping out with the shop and now that I am running it I want to help the community who supports us.”
