There has been some concern that babies born during lockdown are missing out on vital socialisation, but one group in Ayr has tried to prevent that through video sessions for little ones.

Glow Bambino Ayr, run by Louise Robertson, 32, is designed not only to help our youngest, but also to give mums, dads, and carers a boost.

Louise, a part-time secondary school teacher and mum to a two and a four-year-old began the “sensory adventure sessions” exclusively for children, to help with their development. She initially did three classes a week on her days off, but they were so popular she’s now up to 12.

She usually hosts classes at the Kincaidston Community Centre, but has now moved on to Facebook Live.

After sensing that there was a need for a session for parents and carers to catch up too, she began hosting extra sessions post-class for the adults to have a natter.

Louise said: “I wish I could do more classes for my mums and fit everyone in on my waiting list.

“It’s long and I think this just shows how mums/dads/caregivers are really struggling and

desperately trying to get their babies sensory development.

“I just want to get it across to mums that ‘they have got this’ they are doing so well at home and we will get back as soon as we can but until then their babies will be enjoying time at home and not to worry about their development too much.”

One attendee of the class said: “Honestly, attending Glow Bambino kept me sane.

“I was feeling the worst mother because my baby boy was born in a worldwide pandemic and I couldn’t do anything with him.

“There is only so much jumping around the living room with bubbles and whatnot that you can do before your baby gets bored of you.

“But not at Glow Bambino with Louise. Alfie absolutely loves his classes. He is full of smiles every time he attends.”

“It’s amazing how much his little brain is working exploring the new toys and textures etc.

“All while still getting to hear and see other babies and parents, which is great for him as I was so afraid he was going to become strange with people as he wasn’t getting any type of socialisation due to lockdown rules.”
