A shop in Prestwick was targeted yesterday in an act of daylight robbery, with a worker suffering a hand injury as a result of the ordeal.

Staff at Jan de Vries on Main Street were left shocked after a man threatened them and left with a sum of cash around 4.10pm yesterday afternoon (February 25).

Police were present outside the shop following the incident and they are searching for the culprit, who is still at large.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers were called around 4.10pm on Thursday, February 25 to a report of a robbery at a shop in Main Street, Prestwick.

"A man entered the premises, threatened staff and demanded money before making off with a sum of cash."

Detective Constable Lana Grant said: “Two member of staff were in the shop at the time and have been left shocked and upset and one sustained a hand injury.

"A man was seen to make off in the direction of the rail station. Anyone who can help with our enquiries is asked to call us on 101, quoting incident number 1943 of Thursday, February 25 or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
