The culprit behind the robbery of a Prestwick store last week that left one member of staff injured, has been caught.

A 57-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft at Jan de Vries healthstore on Main Street. He is due to appear in court today (Monday).

The incident occurred on Thursday (February 25) afternoon.

The man threatened staff and made of with a sum of money. One member of staff ended up with an injured hand as a result of the encounter.

A police spokesperson said: "A 57-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a robbery in Prestwick. 

"Officers were called around 4.10pm on Thursday, February 25 to a report of a robbery at a shop in Main Street, Prestwick.

"The man is due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, March 1, 2021.

"Members of the public are thanked for their assistance in this inquiry."
