Irvine's waste recycling centre has had to close after a fire in the area.

Council chiefs advised this afternoon they will update if the Bartonholm recycling centre repons today [Saturday, March 6] after a grass fire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service confirmed they responded at 1.15pm with three appliances to a large grass fire to the rear of the centre and have now left the area.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: "The recycling centre at Bartonholm is currently closed due to a fire in the surrounding area.

"Updates will be provided if the site reopens today."

More as we get it.
