From false teeth to underwear and even artificial legs, it can be hard to see how such items can be simply forgotten about when homeowners decide to uproot.

According to a survey conducted by leading home buying company WeBuyAnyHome, however, the knack for leaving such items behind isn't that uncommon - particularly around our parts.

When asking the nation about what was lost in the moving madness, and indeed what the weirdest item is that they've been greeted with when rocking up to their new home, the survey found that while a quarter of the country have left something behind in a move before, North Ayrshire folk are the most forgetful in Scotland.

South Ayrshire residents were also shown up as the second most wasteful in the country, just behind Moray.

And the stats don't stop there. Over half of Scotland admitted to purposefully ditching their unwanted items on unsuspecting new residents and millennials were found to be the main culprits, with every two in five of those admitting to doing so being aged 25-44.

Here are the Top 5 Most Forgetful places in Scotland:

  1. North Ayrshire
  2. Inverness-shire
  3. South Lanarkshire
  4. Aberdeen
  5. Stirling

Here are the Top 5 Most Wasteful places in Scotland:

Polling 2,000 adults on the most common items left behind when moving, an overwhelming majority declared 'messages on walls' as well as plants, old clothing, rotten food and money. Most intriguing of all, seven per cent of Scots also discovered secret passages or compartments leading to strange parts of the property...

In terms of the more illicit and bizarre, WeBuyAnyHome saw homeowners admit to stumbling across artificial legs, false teeth, crutches and even pet dogs, cats and budgies!
