A deliberate fire was started in Springside with extensive damaged caused to the building.

Police are investigating the fire raising incident, which occurred at 6.30pm on Wednesday, May 12.

Police received a call from Scottish Fire and Rescue at 7.25pm yesterday evening stating they were in attendance at a fire at the changing room pavillion on Garrier Road.

It has since been established this fire was set intentionally and has caused extensive damage rendering the building unusable.

A spokesperson for Saltcoats CID said: "This crime has caused extensive damage to the building which will place a significant financial burden on its owners to put right, as well as denying the local community and sports teams it's use."

"Luckily nobody was injured as a result of this act, but the consequences could have been far worse.

"We are appealing for anyone that has information that could assist with the enquiry to contact us on 101 quoting incident 2958 of the 12th."

"We would like to remind people of the dangers of fire setting, not just in terms of risk of injury and damage to property but also the risks of diverting emergency services resources from being available to attend other emergency incidents."
