MEMBERS of Kilwinning’s Boy’s Brigade have become litter pickers extraordinaire after filling over 200 bags of rubbish in the town.

On Friday night the BBs met the team from Kilwinning Litter Pickers who gave them brand new vests and litter picking tools to help them with their efforts.

They started off in the Whitehirst Park area in October last year when they filled 30 bags with rubbish lying about the side of the roads in the estate.

Next they targeted the Woodwynd area of the town and Church Street and collected 48 bags.

Nethermains and Almswall Park were next on their list where they filled 47 bags and at the Sports Club in Pennyburn the BBs collected 29 bin bags.

Last month, the troop returned to Whitehirst Park and collected a further 25 bags of rubbish and even a suitcase.

And on Friday night the community minded litter pickers headed back to Nethermains and Almswall Park to fill a staggering 33 bags of rubbish.

Councillor Donald Reid commended the efforts of the young litter pickers and said: “Kilwinning Litter Pickers, a group of community spirited individuals were delighted to support the Boy’s Brigade during their six dedicated clean ups

“We were happy to meet them on Friday and present them with their Kilwinning Litter Picker vests and litter pickers to help them with their task.

“These took place despite almost four months of no action due to the restrictions and we thank them all for their time and their hard work in keeping Kilwinning tidy.”

Kilwinning Litter Pickers is a growing community group of

residents who go out in small groups to tackle areas in the town.

Councillor Reid, who is a volunteer with the group, hopes more people come forward to tidy up their own patch.
