Irvine’s dedicated band of litter picking legends got dressed up last week in their ongoing efforts to keep the beach clean.
The group, which formed in late 2017, regularly target particularly litter-filled areas around town and hit the beach last week [Thursday, May 27].
Irvine Clean-up Crew volunteer Sandra Hughes said: “One of my favourite ever photos from Irvine Clean Up Crew – Huge thanks to everyone who dressed as a mascot today.”
Members also recently carried out litter surveys to kick off this summer’s My Beach, Your Beach campaign from environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Just 220 items of litter were recorded on 200m of the beach and prom at Irvine capturing a snapshot of the local beach litter problem prior to the official bathing season start date of June 1.
However, cigarette ends were identified as the most common item of litter left on the beach.
