MORE than 800 vaccines were delivered to people at the NHS Ayrshire & Arran drop-in vaccine centre in Dreghorn last Wednesday (June 2).

In total, 826 doses were given to people in Ayrshire who turned up to the centre.

The health board announced on social media that anyone living in Ayrshire, who hadn’t had a first vaccine or a blue letter appointment could go along to the Greenwood Conference Centre to get a dose.

Such was the response to the opening, the centre had to closes its doors to drop-ins earlier than anticipated.

The centre was due to close to drop-ins at 7pm, but the demand and two-hour queues meant the centre had to close to new comers 90 minutes earlier.

Lynne McNiven, Director of Public Health said: “NHS Ayrshire & Arran has seen an incredible response to our local mass vaccination programme, and are continuing to vaccinate residents according to the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) prioritisation as set out nationally.

“The drop-in opportunity at Greenwood Conference Centre was offered at short notice, to make the most of available vaccine supply and staff resource. Against the backdrop of rising cases of COVID-19 in our communities, and variants that are believed to be more transmissible, the offer for vaccination was opened to any adult in Ayrshire yet to have a first dose.

“The clinic was extremely well attended, with 826 vaccines delivered on a drop-in basis, in addition to those appointed to attend the clinic beforehand.”

In the mean time anyone aged between 18-29 is being urged to sign up for a vaccine, with the registration date being extended until June 11. You can register at https://www.nhsinform.scot/under30register .
