A NEW music studio has launched in Irvine to help build up the next generation of budding musicians.

Ellis Music Studios was launched in Townhead this month by Sidesplitters Comedy Club boss Jamie Haining and Scott Booth – who both hope to help boost musical talent across the area after a difficult year amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The pair also plan to launch regular weekend sessions for youngsters in the schools and are encouraging any sponsors to get in touch.

Scott Booth told the Times: “We started the studio as there aren’t any really good practice rooms in Ayrshire, and there are a lot of musicians in Ayrshire that have to travel all the way to Glasgow to practice in decent rooms.

“We are the only high quality practice studio in the area – studio one is now set up and studio two is in process. We’ve been picking up bookings and studio two should be done in the next week or so which will allow us to have more people at prime times – obviously the evening times and weekends are busiest.

“We’re hoping the studio is going to be a big thing as we don’t have many in the area – having somewhere else in North Ayrshire to allow new bands to get out is going to hugely beneficial.

“Bands like to have somewhere they can go quite locally – just now with the limited options if everywhere else is booked up they have to get a train to Glasgow – which can be a mammoth event if you are taking guitars, cymbals and snare drums.

“We also want to give back with the studios as well so we will be running Saturday morning Jam sessions for school age children as well as a Summer of Rock event where we hope to get enough response to have two or three bands made up of school age kids to learn a few songs and put on a wee gig before they go back to school.

“If you are coming along to rehearse we are COVID compliant with hand sanitiser and wiping down all the equipment – so I think we provide both a safe and creative environment.

“We are looking for sponsors that would like to get involved with this event and to help inspire the next generation of budding musicians.”
