People in Ayrshire are being invited to get jagged at a walk-in vaccine clinic in Troon this weekend.

Operating out of Walker Hall, the centre is offering vaccines to those above the age of 18 who have not yet had a first dose of a COVID jab and those who had their first dose on or before April, 27, 2021 and have not yet had a second dose.

Those aged 16 or 17 years-old who are unpaid carers or living with someone who is shielding will also be welcomed.

It will be open from 8.30am-7.30pm on Sunday, June 20.

There will be another clinic in Kilmarnock, at the Galleon Centre from 9am-7.30pm on Tuesday, June 22.

The last time a vaccine clinic operated out of Walker Hall in Troon was a couple of weeks ago. Almost two thousand people turned up to get jagged and it was deemed a huge success.

Health chiefs have advised that because of the large numbers of people turning up to get their jag and do their bit to stop the spread of the virus, people should be prepared to wait in a queue to be seen.

Director of Public Health Lynne McNiven said: “Getting vaccinated is likely to be the most important thing you do this year. Our teams and partners are working incredibly hard to deliver the vaccine to communities around Ayrshire to offer people the best protection we can against COVID-19.

“Drop-in clinics are just one thread of the blended approach we have to our vaccination programme. I’d encourage anyone – particularly anyone over 30 who has not yet had their first dose of vaccine – to take this opportunity to be vaccinated. We also want those who’ve missed their second dose to come forward as it is having both doses of vaccine that maximises the protection you get against the virus.

“Remember that we cannot predict turnout at drop-in clinics, so on the day it could be that you need to wait to be seen by one of our vaccinators. Please keep an eye on our social media updates where you may get more details about the length of wait and any other important information. And remember to bring water and wear sunscreen if the sun is shining.

“I want to say thank you to every single person who has come forward for vaccine in Ayrshire since the programme began. Every jag is one step closer to getting back to something more like normal, for all of us.”
