The number of positive COVID cases in North Ayrshire has rocketed up according to latest statistics.

Public Health Scotland figures show that there were 322 cases between June 19-25, which is a massive jump of 109 positive cases from the previous week.

Our seven-day rate per 100,000 of population now currently stands at 239.0, the Scottish rate is currently 290.8.

Despite this jump in cases, there are still 21 council areas in Scotland with a worse seven-day rate per 100,000 of population than us.

Currently four of the 38 neighbourhoods in the area are classed as having suppressed the virus, which means that all have recorded less than three positive tests in the past week.

Ardrossan North West, Dalry East and Rural, Irvine Bourtreehill and Largs South are classed as suppressing the virus.

Stevenston North West recorded the most positive cases over this period, with 20. Stevenston Ardeer recorded 16 positive tests. Irvine Tarryholme and Irvine Castlepark North both recorded 14 positive tests.

As of Monday, June 28, 88.4 per cent of the adult population had received the first dose of a vaccine, with 67.1 per cent having both, which is both higher than the Scottish average of 84.1 per cent and 60.3 per cent, respectively.

Despite the rise in cases, the National Records of Scotland reported that there were no deaths caused by COVID in North Ayrshire between June 14 and 20.

Across Scotland, a further 3,285 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded, a new record high, the Scottish Government revealed.
