AN IRVINE worker who is relentless in his pursuit to reach various world records in a number of physical challenges has come up trumps again after completing a 13-and-a-half hour wall sit for the DEBRA charity.

It is something that is testing and fairly painful to do for just 30 or 40 seconds as part of a workout, but starting on June 27 at 8pm and finishing at 9.30am the next day, William Cannon managed to beat the current world record of 12 hours and 45 minutes for a wall-sit - already held by himself.

Despite feeling a bit jelly-legged, William says he is going to “power on”, with his next record-breaking attempt coming in autumn when he plans to do a 1350kg leg press in Ayr.

He explained: “It was a successful outcome. I never reached my target of 15 hours as unfortunately I started to develop no feeling in my feet and legs.

“You’ve got to stop when that happens. These things happen sometimes and it doesn’t always go to plan.

“We did break my existing world record but it was a bit disappointing we didn’t get 15 hours. For my next challenge, I’m very confident I can do it.

“I haven’t failed before.

“I set big targets but I’ve always broken them. I’ve always enjoyed challenging myself, especially doing it for people less fortunate than me.

“The leg press will be seated, throwing on the equivalent of nearly £3,000 in weight.

“I have done 900kg light presses before but I think it can be done by a 77kg man.

“It is a world record for heavyweights so I’m

pushing over into their section.”
