THE team at 1st Alliance Credit Union has had a £150,000 boost to help its fight against loan sharks.
Council leader Joe Cullinane said: “The pandemic has left many families struggling financially and the grant will help 1st Alliance provide access to fair credit, stopping people from going to high-cost loan sharks.”
Ann Robertson MBE, Director of 1st Alliance Credit Union said: “We are delighted that North Ayrshire Council is supporting us in our effort to reduce the use of high-cost lending in North Ayrshire.
“The £150k will enable us to work with people to move away from these lenders to ourselves on much more affordable terms.
“This partnership is at the heart of Community Wealth Building, we look forward to working with the council.”
