NHS Ayrshire & Arran stood united with emergency service partners to mark the end of Pride Month and show their continued support for LGBT+ communities.

Representatives from NHS Ayrshire & Arran, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, and Scottish Ambulance Service flew rainbow flags for Pride outside University Hospital Crosshouse to mark the end of Pride Month.

And the health board continues to show its support to the LGBT+ community by joining with others to support the new NHS Scotland Pride Pledge which was launched in June.

All staff can sign the Pride Pledge, to show they will promote a message of inclusion, speak up and challenge intolerance.

Elaine Savory, Equality and Diversity Adviser, NHS Ayrshire & Arran added: “By supporting the NHS Scotland Pride Badge we hope to re-enforce our commitment to fostering an environment that is open, tolerant and inclusive for all.

“This small but visible sign of support wore by staff can make a huge difference to someone and improve the experience of LGBT+ service users who may feel uncomfortable when seeking medical support and advice.”

Superintendent Derek Frew, Ayrshire Division said in support: “By showing our collective support for LGBT+ colleagues and communities we hope this provides individuals with the confidence to be their true selves in the workplace and in social environments.”

Lynne Peacock, Scottish Ambulance Service Area Service Manager (West Region), added: “The Scottish Ambulance Service is proud to support Pride Month and is actively involved in supporting various Pride Events and discussion throughout the year.

“We are committed to improving diversity and inclusivity in our workforce.”
