A man and woman were both bailed after facing assault charges as well as allegedly carrying a blade after a man was seriously injured in Irvine.

Ashley Baillie, 29, and Shaun Williamson, 30, faced court this week after they were arrested for alleged involvement in an assault in Broomlands.

We reported last week that a man, 42, was taken to hospital for serious arm injuries after an attack in Gigha Wynd just before 9pm on Thursday, July 15, with police since confirming two arrests.

Baillie faced a charge of assault to severe injury when she appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday [July 19].

Co-accused Williamson was charged with assault to severe injury and also allegedly carrying an article with blade or point in a public place.

Both entered no plea to the charges and were committed for further examination.

They were released on bail and will return to court at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man have been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault on a 42 year-old man in Gigha Wynd, Broomlands, Irvine on Thursday, 15 July, 2021.

"They were due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, 19 July, 2021.

"A full report has been forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
