Kilwinning Rangers manager Chris Strain said the referee had a poor performance as he sent off two Kilwinning players in the side’s 0-0 draw against Largs Thistle.

Carlo Monti saw red early in the first half before Ross Smith was also sent off late in the second half.

Speaking to the Times, Strain said: “For Monti’s red, it was a through ball and the Largs player has gone down but he was not reaching the ball, the goalkeeper had it covered.

“He is not denying a goalscoring opportunity which is what he has been sent off for, as the Largs player was not getting the ball.

“The second one was a poor decision on the referee’s part. He did not consult the linesmen who was closer to the incident and made a quick rash decision.

“He had a poor day, the referee, in my opinion... but it was a good point for us given the circumstances.”

Next up is a derby match as the Buffs take on Medda in the league at the weekend, with Strain saying his side will be up for it.

He added: “They are in good form and we will need to respect that, but it is a derby match and the players will be motivated for it.”
