Irvine nurse celebrates special 100th birthday surrounded by family
AN IRVINE woman enjoyed her special 100th birthday celebration surrounded by family and friends at the Riverside Lodge on Sunday.
Jane “Jean” Whyte was born September 17 1921, Glasgow and later, while serving in the Second World War, married Alex Whyte.
They had four children Les, David, Susan and Valerie with 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren –12 by the end of the year.
In the 70s the family moved to Irvine new town and she worked in Irvine Central hospital. Jean worked well into her 60s as a community nurse in Ayrshire.
Alex and Jean lived happily together in Girdle Toll until Alex’s death in 1989.
