A KILWINNING lecturer has been given a prestigious national award for teaching excellence.

Professor Jean Rankin of the University of the West of Scotland has been awarded the National Teaching Fellowship for her contribution to midwifery education.

The award recognises Jean’s commitment to mentoring her students and the international impact of her leadership as the professor is adjunct Professor of Midwifery in New Zealand.

Jean, nee Porter, was educated at Corsehill Primary and Ravenspark Academy in Irvine before before studying physiology and gaining doctoral studies at the University of Glasgow and working for NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
