Pupils from Elderbank Primary in Irvine and their families have been presented with certificates for outdoor learning activities.
The youngsters have been actively engaged in outdoor learning activities at school. They then planned and led their families on outdoor adventures.
Now, thanks to their work with North Ayrshire’s Family Learning Team, they have been presented with their John Muir Family Award certificates.
With help from the family learning worker and an Eglinton Park Ranger, they all learned about John Muir and completed the Discover, Explore, Conserve and Share aspects of their Family Award.
While at school the children spent time learning about the environment before sharing their knowledge with their families.
Each family discovered local wild and exciting places and shared outdoor experiences such as making bird feeders, going on scavenger hunts and taking care of local spaces by litter picking.
The children also learned how to conserve energy around their homes.
Throughout the process, families shared pictures and stories about their home learning activities and were able to share their knowledge with others.
A spokesperson from the Family Learning Team said: “This has been a positive experience for families who have enjoyed learning about the environment together and worked together to achieve the John Muir Family Award.”
