A Kilwinning teenager will remain in custody while he faces assault and weapon charges after a woman was left injured at New Year as well as allegedly breaching bail.

Cops were called to Ladyford Avenue in the town at 1.45am on Saturday, January 1 while officers confirmed a woman was left with minor injuries after the incident.

A 17-year old male, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age, faced two charges of assault to injury and one of assault during a private hearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court [Monday, January 3] after his arrest.

He was also charged with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, and with two counts of failing to comply with bail conditions.

The accused entered no plea during the hearing and was committed for further examination and held in custody.

When he returned to court this week [Tuesday, January 11] he was fully committed and again remanded in custody.

His next court date is yet to be confirmed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received reports of a disturbance on Ladyford Avenue in Kilwinning around 1.45am on Saturday, January 1. One woman sustained minor injuries.

“A 17-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He was due to appear appear in Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.”
