A woman was left shaken after three bogus workmen turned up at her home in Dreghorn.
The woman answered the door to three men on Thursday [January 13] who claimed they were from the gas company and required access to check her boiler.
The woman was not injured and nothing was stolen but she has been left badly upset by the incident.
The first man is described as Eastern European with dark hair, he was wearing a hi-vis jacket, a mask and was carrying a folder. The other two men are both described as Eastern European, had scarves covering their faces and were wearing black or navy jackets. One of the men was wearing a dark baseball cap and the other was wearing a burgundy woollen hat.
Officers are gathering CCTV footage from the surrounding area and reviewing it for any additional information it can provide on the three men.
Detective Constable Robbie McIntosh, of Saltcoats CID, said: “I would ask members of the public to be on their guard, clearly these three men are trying to dupe householders into believing they are legitimate workmen.
“If anyone saw these three men or noticed them hanging around the area, I would urge them to contact us. Any small piece of information could be vital in helping us trace these men.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1114 of 13 January. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
