Reckless vandals launched objects at passing vehicles from a footbridge in Irvine, police suggest.
Officers are seeking the public's help in identifying the culprits, who it is said threw an 'unknown object' from the bridge between Paterson Avenue and Knadgerhill Cemetery last Thursday (January 20) around 5.35pm.
The missile struck a passing vehicle travelling on the northbound carriage of the A78 below.
It's not the first time such an incident has happened, the Times reported last week how a 'mystery item' had been thrown at passing cars from the footbridge close to the Castlepark circle.
North Ayrshire officers shared their appeal on Twitter this morning.
They said in a statement "About 1735hrs on Thu 20/01/2022 an unknown object was thrown from the Paterson Ave/Knadgerhill Cemetery bridge - striking a moving vehicle travelling northbound on the A78. Any witnesses / pertinent dash-cam footage, contact Irvine Police office Locality Policing Team via 101."
