A YOUNG mum who failed to ensure her daughter was adequately clean, clothed and let her out on her own has been given unpaid work for child neglect.

The West Kilbride resident, who we can’t name to protect the identity of her daughter now aged seven, faced the charge when she appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

The mum in her early 30s admitted she wilfully exposed and neglected the child, then aged five, in manner likely to cause her unnecessary suffering.

She plead guilty to causing her to live in unhygienic conditions at their address without adequate bedding – as well as failing to ensure that she was adequately washed and clothed.

The complaint states she also allowed her to travel over a mile on her own to Kirktonhall Glen play park with no supervision for around 90 minutes on July 15, 2020.

When she appeared in the dock for sentencing last week [Thursday, January 20] she was given a community payback order and placed under the supervision of the authorities for a year.

She was also ordered to complete 60 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.

Police can be contacted on 101 – in an emergency 999.
