MORE than a thousand model railway enthusiasts descended upon Irvine Harbourside at the end of January to celebrate a special 50th anniversary.

The excited visitors joined the sold out, record-breaking Kilmarnock and District Model Railway Club (KDMRC) exhibition at the Scottish Maritime Museum on Irvine Harbourside over the weekend of January 29 and January 30.

Visitors of all ages enjoyed a collection of models presented by members of KDMRC as they celebrated their half-century birthday as well as displays by visiting clubs Dundee Model Railway Club, Renfrewshire Model Railway Club and Kyle Model Railway Club.

Children had fun with lots of Thomas the Tank themed games and activities, ‘driving’ Thomas the Tank and following a Thomas the Tank trail.

Eva Bukowska, Scottish Maritime Museum Visitor Services Assistant Manager, said: “This weekend’s Kilmarnock and District Model Railway Club event was an overwhelming success.

“It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the models particularly as it is the Club’s 50th anniversary and their first event in two years.”

An online statement from the KDMRC said: “We would like to thank everyone who attended for their support this year.

“We have had what appears to be a record breaking event for

the club and look forward to seeing you all at our next exhibition.

“A special thanks to the staff at The Scottish Maritime Museum for their help throughout the weekend.”
