A man who fell asleep on a beach told police to "f*** off" as it was none of their business after they found him lying unconscious at Sandlylands.

Scott Hamilton, 30, admitted shouting and swearing at officers when they found him laying at the grass dunes on the beach on June 11 last year – with a not guilty plea to resisting arrest accepted.

Hamilton, of Donaldson Avenue, Stevenston, expressed his remorse when he was fined on February 3 after the court heard he blacked out during a night on the drink.

The fiscal depute said: “At 5.30pm a member of the public observed the accused laying on the dunes unconscious. Police were contacted who traced the accused.

“Police were quickly able to rouse the accused and asked him to provide personal details but he continuously failed to do so.

“They observed the accused was under the influence. He told officers to “f*** off" and it was “none of your f***ing business".

“The accused was warned of his conduct and stood up shouting and swearing. He said “get to f***” with a clenched fist.”

Sheriff Murdoch McTaggart fined Hamilton a total of £140.
