ONE of the world’s premier aerobatic display teams could be set to wow crowds in Irvine this summer - but full details of the planned performance are being kept under wraps for the time being.

The Red Arrows, officially known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, are expected to take to the skies above the town later this year as part of the rescheduled Making Waves Festival.

The event was originally planned for July 2020 to mark VisitScotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters celebration, but had to be cancelled due to Covid.

In a list published online of upcoming displays, the Red Arrows are pencilled in for the Irvine event on July 23, 2022, just three days after visiting Peterhead for the town’s celebration of 60 years of Scottish Week.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson confirmed the festival is set to go ahead over the weekend of July 22-24, and told the Times that further details will be announced in the coming weeks.
