However, the issue has reared its head again after police reported objects damaging a car earlier this month.

Police are apealing for information about an incident on Saturday, April 2 where a vehile travelling southbound on the A78 was damaged.

Police say there was significant damage caused to the grille of the vehicle.

A police spokesperson said: "After a spate of incidents involving rocks thrown from the Castlepark/Eglinton Park footbridge onto passing vehicles on the A78, a media campaign and extra attention by locality officers was conducted in January 2022.

"Whilst this appeared to reduce the number of reported like-incidents, at 8.50pm on Saturday, April 2 there was a further report of an unknown object thrown at a moving vehicle travelling on the southbound A78.

"This caused significant damage to the front grille of the vehicle – and this irresponsible and reckless act could have caused serious injury."

Officers are appealing for any information regarding this latest incident or those previously reported.
