Police have issued a warning to drivers in North Ayrshire after a motorist was clocked at 148 miles per hour on one of the area’s busiest roads.
Officers said the motorist “almost flew past them” while police officers were carrying out routine speed checks on the A78 on Saturday, April 23.
In a post on Twitter, in which they also shared an image of the 148mph reading taken from a speed gun at the scene, Police Scotland’s road policing officers said: “Nice weather doesn’t mean you can drive at these ridiculous speeds.”
The service’s most senior Ayrshire officer said the driver’s behaviour had put themselves and others in danger.
Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain, Police Scotland’s Ayrshire divisional commander, added: “Faster speeds means greater impacts...our roads are not race tracks.”
A 36-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal following the incident.
