Irvine: James Doull represents Scotland in Powerchair Nations Cup

James Doull captains the Ayrshire Tigers, who were delighted to see one of their players receive national recognition.

The tournament took place at the Ards Blair Maynes Leisure Centre in Newtownards in County Down, Northern Ireland, on May 7 and 8.

James has also been selected for another upcoming tournament – the EPFA Cup – which will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, between August 21 and 27.

The Nations Cup saw James and his team-mates face off against national sides from England, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The teams faced each other once, in a group stage before first and second in the group took each other on for the title and third and fourth played for the official third spot.

Across their three group games, Scotland unfortunately lost out 4-0 to the Republic of Ireland, though a 2-1 win against Northern Ireland would follow.

Sadly the Scots’ hopes of a victory in their last group game against England were dashed as the ‘auld enemy’ won the match 7-1.

That meant a third place play-off against Northern Ireland, whom the Scots had already defeated - but the host nation took their revenge, and the bronze medal, with a 2-0 win.

The results would not take away from the experience for James and all at the Times would like to congratulate him on this fantastic achievement!
