AN Irvine exercise group are looking for new members to join them in getting active and healthy.

Irvine Running Club enters teams in most Scottish road race and cross country events throughout the season, however there are several members who run just for fun and to stay fit.

The group say that new members, whatever their standard, are always welcome and are assured of a friendly greeting from all members of the club.

Irvine Running Club is made up of runners of all ages and levels from across the area, and the group has started their very own Couch to 5k event.

A spokesperson said: “If you are looking to make the most out of the summer weather, challenge yourself or simply just have some fun then look no further! Our couch to 5k program is back due to popular demand!

“Come and join one of our friendly and supportive groups led by trained Jog Leaders.

“If you can walk briskly for 30 minutes, we aim to get you up to running a 5k in around 10 weeks.

“All you need is comfy clothing and a pair of running shoes (and for the ladies a supportive bra is helpful).

“We charge £1 per week to cover costs, and ask you to register with JogScotland (free).”

Irvine Running Club will also be hosting a special family open day for everyone to head along and try out on Saturday, May 28 between 12pm and 3pm”

“Come along to our first ever open day!

“Try our running, jumping and throwing activities, with both kids and adults welcome, meaning it’ll be a great afternoon for the whole family.

“It’s a free event, with free food and refreshments for everyone so come along and have some fun.
