Irvine pupils have been pledging to read for six minutes this month to keep the head and help mental health.

Youngsters at Irvine Royal Academy have been taking up the pledge – with reading helping mental health by nearly 70 per cent.

A spokesperson for Irvine Royal Academy said: “As Maya and Kyle show, we are supporting #KeepTheHeid on Wednesday at Irvine Royal Academy by pledging to read for six minutes.

“This is all it takes to boost our mental health by 68 per cent.

“Anyone in our wider school community can join us, pledge at http://keeptheheid.scot.”

To celebrate the power of reading, libraries and good mental health, you are being asked to pledge six minutes on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 and devote it to reading.

To mark the Year of Scotland’s Stories 2022 there is a great book giveaway through libraries as part of Keep the Heid and Read!

To support the Reading Moment there will be competitions and prize draws taking place in local libraries across Scotland.
