The Irvine Incorporated Trades took to the Riverside Lodge in Irvine as they hosted their 45th commemorative Burgh ball.

The community organisation have been running since 1646 after a seal of cause was granted by the Royal Burgh of Irvine nearly 376 years ago.

This original seal of cause was granted to seven different craft guilds in the Irvine area.

With the Charter came the right and privilege to manufacture and sell goods within the town boundaries.

The Incorporation had the right to try all made work by journey men from within the town and those who came to work from outside the town.

No one could, without permission of the Incorporation, manufacture and sell goods in the town.

In 1846 an act of Parliament abolished exclusive rights and trading privileges of trade guilds and Incorporations throughout Scotland.

Though those in Irvine still look to keep alive the sense of community, the traditions and obligation the incorporation brings.
