KILWINNING Academy pupils have secured a four figure sum to be given to a domestic abuse charity.

Police Scotland’s Campus Officer PC Watters of Kilwinning Academy attended presentations held by pupils of the YPI (Youth Philanthropy Initiative), an annual event supported by local businesses.

A presentation by Millie Johnstone, Christine Begley, Lily Ward, Rebecca Doyle and Ebony Harvie secured the first prize of £3,000 to North Ayrshire Women’s Aid.

This charity are a unique specialist service that provide emotional and practical support to women and children affected by domestic abuse.

The pupils drew attention to how much help the donation would provide - with a view to building a working relationship between the charity and the school.

A North Ayrshire Women’s Aid statement said: “If you are in a domestic abuse situation we know it can be hard to make that first call for help but that’s what we are here for. Visit www.nawomensaid.com.”
