A FORMER toilet block within an Irvine car park is set to be turned into a hot food takeaway unit after plans were approved by North Ayrshire Council.
The derelict building, in the East Road car park, was previously used as public conveniences but permission has now been granted for its conversion into a food and drink outlet.
The building has not been used for more than five years and applicant, David Munro, said it is “becoming an eyesore within what, otherwise, is a vibrant and well-kept area”.

In a supporting statement for the application, he added: “The area would greatly benefit from a repurposing and enlivening of the structure.
“The relatively remote location (rom any nuisance sensitive buildings and spaces) enjoyed by the building is ideal to deliver a hot food facility that can benefit from the high level of foot-traffic generated from the car parking area and the pedestrian routes through the site.”
