AN IRVINE man admitted sending menacing malicious messages to his sister, her partner and their employers – after previously being placed on the sex offender’s register for lewd acts with his ex partner’s teenage daughter.

Alister Niven Goldie, 54, pleaded guilty to stalking when he returned to court last week after causing his sister and her partner fear and alarm over a three-year period.

Goldie made calls and sent texts of a threatening, sinister nature, which evinced ill will towards her on various occasions between October 1, 2018, and September 27, last year.

He later sent threatening and malicious emails about her to her employer and malicious emails and calls to her partner’s employer.

The Times reported back in January that the court imposed special bail conditions preventing him from contacting the complainers, Merck or the NHS (unless in an emergency).

The Procurator Fiscal depute said: “It’s noted in the libel the complainer is the accused’s sister, the relationship broke down prior to October 2018 for a number of reasons.

“There was a fall out about the father’s will that then led to the accused sending his sister a number of emails which were threatening and sinister in nature.

“He also sent a number to her employer, also his sister’s partner’s employer, alleging bad behaviour to put it that way and not fit to be in posts.

“Due to the number of emails and calls police were contacted and the complainers reported matter as harassment and wanted him to stop. Police spoke to the accused and warned him to stop. Both would also like a non-harassment order

Defence solicitor Simon Brown said: “Mr Goldie is 54, living at the address and in receipt of benefits due to injury. It’s a sad and unfortunate situation. Unfortunately there was a complete break down in the relationship after the death of the father.

“He became more fixated and accepts now the actions he took over the three-year period would cause his sister and partner distress.

“He was angry and on reflection now and accepts it was wrong”

Sheriff Colin Bissett said: “This was an absolutely disgraceful way for you to behave, whatever disagreements you might have had legitimate or not, you are not entitled to treat people this way.”

“You caused a great deal of embarrassment and upset and you dragged the employers into this whole business. Your conduct was absolutely ridiculous and foolish.”

He fined him £720 plus a victim surcharge payment of £40 and placed on a 12-month non-harassment order preventing contact with the complainers.

In 2017, Goldie was convicted of engaging in sexual intercourse while in a position of trust towards a teenage girl.

He was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for three years.
