AN ERA has come to an end for one Kilwinning boys club – though it brings with it the exciting beginnings of a new chapter.

Kilwinning Rangers under 19’s played their last match together as a boys club side as they fell agonisingly short in their Scottish Cup final versus St Cadoc’s.

However, it will not spell the end altogether, as they step up to form Kilwinning Rangers under 20’s next season in the Lowland development league.

The group have been together for 13 years, and will take away a lifetime of memories, as well as lifelong friendships.

Their send off as a youth football side, as they will now be classed as a development team, came at their end of season awards night.

In an emotional statement, club secretary Alan McAlpine said: “Thanks to everyone that came to the presentation awards last night. A fantastic night and a fitting way to end our youth football journey.

“Thanks to all those players past and present that bought in to our footballing ethos and our long term plan. We can take pride that we developed our own, only brought in the right boys at the right times and made your football development a far higher priority than winning trophies.”
