The AULD Brig in Irvine’s staff took on a climb of Goatfell to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer last Wednesday and the JD Wetherspoons pub achieved their target of raising £1000.

The fundraising event was organised by the pub’s hillwalking enthusiast Gregor Cairns, who was proud of the team despite the conditions.

He said: “When I woke up I couldn’t believe how bad the weather was, but as we were doing it for charity, it never crossed my mind that I wouldn’t attempt it.”

“Even though the weather was awful I still enjoyed going up the mountain with a great group of people.”

Shift leader, Danielle McComb said: “I really didn’t expect it to be as challenging as it was but I’m so proud of everyone for giving it their best shot.

“I think most of us have realised since that we have felt the burn of muscles we didn’t even know we had before.”

There were 25 members of staff who took part, accompanied by three of their furry friends (pictured), with Vika Kut’s dog Freya who also reached her first summit.

Watch out for the the collection boxes next time you are up at the bar.
