Waste volume at a private Irvine refuse site will be tripled – if the owners meet planning requirements.

At the NAC Planning Committee meeting last Wednesday, Enva Scotland were given the go ahead to increase the total quantity of waste from 600 tonnes to 2,000 tonnes and extend opening to Sundays.

Planning permission for the Shewalton Road facility was granted with conditions.

It stipulates mixed waste, wood, electrical equipment, paper, demolition or building materials, discarded wood, plastics, used amimal bedding and green waste for composting must to be processed off site.

A transport statement also must be submitted to NAC to include a forecast of the increased HGV movements coming from the proposed increase of waste and additional opening hours. They also must ensure the safe and efficient movement of traffic to and from the site.

Thereafter, the site shall be operated only in accordance with the outcome of the assessment of the transport statement by North Ayrshire Council as Planning Authority.
