A MAN has been arrested in connection with an ongoing incident in Irvine this afternoon.

Several police vehicles and officers were spotted in the Girdle Toll area of the town, with part of Middleton Road reportedly closed to drivers.

Police Scotland confirmed to the Times that they attended the area in response to reports of a disturbance at around 3pm today (Tuesday).

A spokesperson said: “A 37-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.

“A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

“There is ongoing police activity in the area and traffic restrictions are currently in place, members of the public are requested to use alternative routes.”
