A KILWINNING man has admitted threatening to stab his former partner of 10 years to death with a machete after telling her she had three days to live.

Darren Hibberd split from his ex in 2019 and the pair now live separately - but the 56-year-old turned up at the woman’s house and threatened her with violence on June 11 this year.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard last week that the victim returned home following a hospital stay and received a phone call from Hibberd at around 12.45pm.

The procurator fiscal depute said: “He stated he was coming to get belongings he had left at the house. He arrived a short time later and let himself in through an unlocked front door.

“She was sitting in the living room and he began to shout and swear calling her a ‘f*****g bitch’, ‘liar’ and ‘a f*****g gold digger’.

“He also said: ‘You have three days to live, I’m going to stab you to death. I have a machete with me.’”

Hibberd, listed in court papers as a resident at Viewfield Manor Leisure Park, pleaded guilty to the threatening and abusive behaviour as well as a further charge of breaching a court order.

The fiscal depute added: “He had been released on an undertaking not to contact his ex, but on June 14 at 9pm he breached that condition by attending at the complainer’s property.

“He was standing outside the living room window and the complainer made no effort to speak to him or acknowledge him, but she did gesture for him to leave. He did not leave and police were contacted again.

“He had been told that she had Covid and he only went up for two seconds to see if she was alright.”

Sentence was deferred until August 1 and Hibberd was bailed and ordered not to contact her.
