POLICE are hunting for a man who allegedly exposed himself near Irvine beach park at the weekend.

The investigation was launched following a social media plea from a Saltcoats mother who claimed earlier this week that her daughter had been camping with friends near Irvine south beach car park when the incident took place.

She said: "His [the suspect's] description is short in height, grey hair, grey beard and triangle and square eyebrow piercings on each eyebrow.

"He was wearing a green jacket, dark blue jeans and either a black or brown camping rucksack. Guys this absolutely traumatised my baby."

Adding to the woman's fear was that the Making Waves festival - held on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24 - being on may mean that the suspect is from out of town, and will be difficult to trace.

Police confirmed that they are now searching for a man following the alleged incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022, officers received a report of a man exposing himself near Marine Drive, Irvine.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace the man."

Police have since began appealing for the public to help trace the accused male.

Detective Sergeant Keith Hyndes said: “This was an upsetting incident for those involved and it’s important we trace the person responsible.

“I would like to reassure the public that it appears to be an isolated incident however anyone who has information or witnessed what happened is urged to contact police.”
