An Irvine woman’s “unique” movie themed wedding has allowed her to have a special day like no other.

Complete with film-themed tables, a Nightmare Before Christmas inspired cake, and with a circus act as entertainment, Kayleigh Dalziel’s out-of-the-box wedding to Kris Martin on August 3 sought to reflect their personalities more than a traditional wedding would.

Hiring out the Lochside House Hotel in New Cumnock as the venue, the couple were inspired by their love of movies and their desire to go against the grain as they wantedto have a day that truly represented their quirky personalities.

Kayleigh said: “When we were talking about getting married and planning it, we both said we wanted something quirky and different, and that really speaks to us.

“It makes your day about you. Everyone has a 'cookie cutter' wedding, but I think when you have a unique wedding, you can look back and you can see the photos and think ‘that’s so us! I’m so happy that we did that.’

“I know the guests are saying ‘your wedding was so different, we’re going to be talking about this for ages’, and that’s really what we wanted.”

The couple’s wedding cake was of particular significance to them as the film A Nightmare Before Christmas is not only one of their favourites but represents an important date night for the couple.

Aside from the unique cake and film theme, the wedding had other personal touches, as Kris made Kayleigh’s bouquet himself and the couple hand-crafted the table decorations.

Their pet pug Ruby was also present to ensure she didn’t miss the special day.

Additionally, as Kayleigh suffers from anxiety, the wedding was not only a way for the couple to show their personalities, but it was a chance for her to feel comfortable and out of the spotlight.

Kayleigh added: “We kept things small and private, and because it was so personal and I knew we had the entertainment and everything else, it took some of the stress away from me.

“I think it would be cool for someone whose plus sized or a bit quirky or a bit goth to think ‘I can do my day my way.’”
