Road works spanning almost a mile are to begin in Stevenston stretching into Kilwinning next week.

"Essential maintenance" is to be carried out on the A738, from the Pennyburn roundabout to Mansefield Trinity Church in Kilwinning.

Work will commence on Wednesday, August 24 and continue until Friday, August 26. This will only be carried out between the hours of 9.30am and 4pm each day.

There will be no need for a diversion around the area once work commences, however, temporary traffic lights will be in place as road narrowing will be required.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

The "essential" work is being carried out by Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit.

This scheme, with a value of £13,000, is said to benefit around 8,625 vehicles using this route each day, by improving visibility of the sign plates and increasing energy efficiency performance in the location.

This scheme, as with all others, is weather dependent, and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
