A KILWINNING woman has recently celebrated her 100th birthday as she partied with friends and family to mark the occasion.

Nancy Phillips was born on August 13,1922 and celebrated her birthday with 20 of her family members and closest friends and a card sent to her from the Queen.

For the past two years, Nancy has lived with Eddie due to a decline in her health and mobility but was still able to enjoy the festivities despite her physical condition.

Eddie said: “She absolutely thoroughly enjoyed the party. She enjoyed seeing everyone who came and just loved being the centre of attention.

“Despite her age her brain still pretty well functioning.

“It took an hour to open all of her presents. She’s got enough boxes of chocolates to open a shop.”

Provost of North Ayrshire, Anthea Dickson was also in attendance on the big day to wish Nancy a happy birthday.

Posting about the celebrations on Twitter, she said: “It was a lovely afternoon with family & friends - & a lot of love.

“It was a privilege to present Nancy with some flowers & a card.”

In her youth Nancy enjoyed travelling, emigrating to Australia with her husband Ted between 1951 and 1962. She has been active throughout her whole life and is known by her friends and family for her sociability.
