An “accessible and fun” guided cycling initiative is being introduced by North Ayrshire Council to encourage fitness and exercise.

The guided cycle rides for beginners will take place every Saturday for the next five weeks at Geilsland Estate in Beith, beginning on September 3 and ending on October 1 and setting off at 11am.

Meanwhile, the evening sessions for more confident cyclists will be held throughout the whole of September and October, taking off from Geilsland Estate at 6.30pm.

All sessions will be free to join and have been run in partnership with Beith Trust and the council’s Trinity Active Travel Team.

North Ayrshire councillor Scott Davidson said: “With autumn almost upon us, the cycle sessions are the perfect opportunity for people of all abilities to gain their confidence, cycle safely and plan their next cycle route in the Garnock Valley so they can continue to enjoy exercising by bike over the coming months.

“I would encourage anyone looking for a welcoming, accessible and fun cycling environment to get involved.

“The series of upcoming free cycling sessions offer a great chance to enjoy the scenic views around Beith. So, if you’re looking to have fun, keep fit and meet new people, why not join in?”

Participants in the evening sessions must be aged 12 or over, and those aged between 12 and 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Those taking part in the morning sessions must be aged six or over with the same rules applying to those 17 and under.

Cyclists are required to wear a helmet and wearing high vis clothing is encouraged.

As spaces for the beginners’ sessions are limited, it is encouraged that you book a spot in advance by clicking here.
