TESCO in Irvine have gained planning permission for two electric vehicle charging points - though these have already been installed.

The local branch of the retail giants submitted a retrospective planning application which was validated early last month, for the already completed project.

However, initial application documents were submitted on June 11, three months before the application was validated, and final documents - neighbour notification and consultation response - were submitted.

This means when the application was initially drafted for the store in the Riverway retail park, work had not in fact commenced.

This was in reference to the two, twin charging points that can be found in the back left hand corner of the car park, as you face the store.

Both charging points have the potential to charge two vehicles similtaneously though these both offer slightly different facilities.

One charger, listed as a fast charging unit, has the ability to work at 3.6kW, 7kW, 11kW and 22kW speeds.

The 'Pod Point Twin Charger' is available for both single & three phase electrical supplies and is compliant with a pay-as-you-go charging system for drivers.

While the other 'Pod Point Media Twin' product is still listed as a "fast charger" though does not quite have the same capabilities as the adjacent product.

With a media screen display, the charging point can supply any power rating up to 7kW single phase. This product is also compatible with a pay-as-you-go system.

As well as the pair of electric vehicle charging points, the application also included the two flag poles with signage which indicate their location within the car park.

The application was approved by planning chiefs at North Ayrshire Council on October 5.

Full details on the charging points can be found on the planning application, available on the council's online planning portal, using reference 22/00439/PP.
