A CONVENIENCE store in the Girdle Toll area of Irvine has been given the green light for its extension plans.

The Premier store, which also houses Quinn's takeaway and butcher, lodged an application with North Ayrshire Council in mid-September.

The proposals will see the store extended, taking advantage of the vacant ground at the front and side of the building.

The extension, spanning approximately 34 square metres, will allow the store to extend one of its servery counters.

It will also see a slight increase in the store space available to the shop.

The plans were approved by North Ayrshire Council, as the planning authority, subject to no conditions on November 1.

The reason for approval was stated as: "The proposal complies with the relevant provisions of the current adopted local development plan and there are no material considerations that indicate otherwise.

"This is determined following an assessment which has had regard to the provisions of the development plan, so far as material to the application, and any other material consideration."

At present, the store has not indicated when any closure would take place, to allow the work to be carried out.
